SMS Notifications — Consent & Disclosure
Last updated: April 30, 2026
LawnWire operates a transactional SMS program called LawnWire Invoice Notifications. The program enables independent lawn-care contractors using the LawnWire platform to send invoice notifications to their customers via text message. This page is the public disclosure for that program.

How end-customer consent is obtained
LawnWire uses a double opt-in flow. Consent is captured directly from the customer by reply-confirmation; offline contractor representations alone are not sufficient to send invoice SMS. The flow is:
- Phone number is collected by the contractor during in-person service setup, an estimate appointment, a scheduling call, or via a paper or emailed estimate. The customer provides their phone number knowingly, with the express purpose of receiving service-related communications.
- The contractor records a consent attestation when adding the customer in LawnWire (per-customer flag with timestamp). This represents the contractor's claim that disclosure was given offline.
- LawnWire automatically sends a single welcome SMS to the customer as the FIRST message to that number. The welcome message identifies the contractor by name, describes the program ("invoice updates by text"), discloses message and data rates, and asks the customer to reply YES to confirm or STOP to decline.
- No invoice SMS is sent to the customer until they reply YES. The platform gates outbound SMS at the application layer on a per-customer status flag (
active) that flips only on customer reply. Contractors cannot bypass this gate. Customers who never reply receive zero SMS from LawnWire. - If the customer replies STOP at any point (welcome message or any subsequent invoice SMS), the platform immediately marks the number as declined and blocks all future outbound. STOP is honored across all contractors on the LawnWire platform — not just the contractor who triggered the most recent message.
The welcome SMS itself is the call to action. Reviewers can verify the consent flow by examining the welcome message format, the inbound webhook handler that captures the YES reply, and the platform-level gate that blocks outbound SMS to any customer not in the active state.
Welcome SMS format
Hi [First Name] — [Contractor Business Name] uses LawnWire to send invoice updates by text. Reply YES to confirm, STOP to decline. Msg & data rates may apply.
This is the first and only message any customer receives until they affirmatively reply YES. It contains the six TCR-required disclosures (sender identity, program description, opt-in CTA, opt-out instructions, message-and-data-rates notice; HELP keyword auto-handled by the carrier).
Sample invoice messages (post-confirmation)
Once the customer has replied YES to the welcome SMS, subsequent invoice notifications follow this structure: contractor name, invoice number, amount, and payment link.
Hi Mrs. Johnson — Al's Business sent invoice INV-202604-0002 for $45.00. Pay: app.lawnwire.com/p/n1CsLAgfdyc
Hi Smith Property Management — Al's Business invoice INV-202604-0003: $80.00. Pay: app.lawnwire.com/p/rc-xoJDmiNU
Hi Garcia Family — Al's Business invoice INV-202604-0004: $55.00. Pay: app.lawnwire.com/p/0OmPBj3YyZc
The three URLs above are live, working invoice pay pages on the LawnWire production system. They render the customer-facing pay page (Stripe Elements card form, invoice line items, and the contractor's name and contact information).
How to opt out
Reply STOP (or UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT) to any message at any time. Opt-out is honored immediately and applies across all contractors on the LawnWire platform — not just the contractor who sent the most recent message. After opting out, you will receive a single confirmation message and no further messages.
To resubscribe, reply START to any prior message thread, or contact the contractor directly to be re-added with fresh consent.
How to get help
Reply HELP (or INFO) to any message for assistance. You will receive a reply with opt-out instructions and contact information.
You can also email hello@lawnwire.com with any questions or to request that your number be removed.
Privacy and data handling
Phone numbers, opt-in / opt-out status, and message delivery metadata are processed solely to deliver the transactional messages described above and to maintain compliance records. LawnWire does not share SMS opt-in data or phone numbers with third parties for marketing purposes, and does not sell this information.
For full detail, see Section 6 of our Privacy Policy.
Contractor responsibility
Contractors using LawnWire are independent businesses operating under their own brand. By using LawnWire to send SMS, each contractor agrees to:
- Inform the customer that LawnWire will send a welcome SMS asking the customer to reply YES, and that invoice SMS will only follow if the customer confirms
- Send only transactional invoice notifications — no marketing, no promotional content, no third-party offers
- Not attempt to re-add a customer who has opted out (the platform blocks this at the data layer regardless)
- Comply with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), CTIA Messaging Principles & Best Practices, and all applicable federal and state laws
Violation of these requirements is grounds for immediate suspension of the contractor's LawnWire account.
